Kona Manta Guide

If the rays don’t come

What happens if no mantas show up

Operators report sightings on most nights, roughly 85 to 95 percent. On the nights they do not come, what you get back depends entirely on who you booked with.

The short answer: most tours offer a free return on another night if seats are open. A few offer a discount, and a few offer nothing. Book on one of your first nights so you can use it.

Book your earliest open evening, not your last one. That one choice matters more than any operator’s policy.

Questions

What happens if you do not see manta rays?

Most Kona operators let you come back for free on another night, usually on a space-available basis. Some give a discount instead, and a few offer nothing. Refunds for a no-show are rare.

When should I book so I can use the guarantee?

Early in your trip. A free return only helps if you have another free night before you fly home.

Do tours get cancelled for weather?

Yes, mainly in winter when swells come in. Anelakai Adventures, for example, refunds weather cancellations it makes. Check each operator’s policy before you book.
